R. Scott Appleby is professor of history and the John M. Regan Jr. Director of the Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He has authored and edited several books on the history of modern religion.With Martin E. Marty he codirected the Fundamentalism Project of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an interdisciplinary and crosscultural study that produced five scholarly volumes on global religious resurgence (1991-1995).
